Free sim cards are a great way to save on your mobile bill, particularly for low usage customers. People using their mobiles more often are more likely to benefit from sim only deals, meaning that you pay a monthly fee (starting at around £10 per month) which will get you an allowance of voice minutes, sms messages and internet use depending on the package. You still get free sim cards sent out to you, you are just committing to a minimum monthly spend (although some plans only require single month commitment).
This section of the site focuses on the available free sim cards which have no minimum spend, you simply top up when you need more credit. The big name networks (o2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, Three and Orange) all offer free sim cards on various tariffs, the table above shows them in more detail, and you can get the full run down by clicking on the logo for each network.
Free sim cards come with no commitment, other than to top up if you wish to use them. There is no requirement to even activate them, so ordering them will not commit you to even a first top up.
As well as the big five mobile networks, there are four further options with great value, from GiffGaff, Tesco, Asda and Virgin Mobile. Each of the free sims offers a slightly different tariff, so it is important to read carefully what you will get to make the right choice. Our current favourite is GiffGaff as they have very low call rates, and also offer the possibility to buy 'goody bags' which provide bundles of calls, texts and web use. This ultimately means even cheaper rates, making this choice the leader of the free sim cards.
We hope you enjoy your visit, and find a great mobile deal!
